The Anti-Safari: Wild Philanthropy gets the green light

By | Monday, 11th January, 2016

Delighted to see the publication of Sophy Robert’s The Anti-Safari story recently covered in a late December issue of the Financial Times.

Sophy has covered more than her fair share of stories for Journeys by Design, having travelled with us on numerous occasions, but this is a first for our sister venture, Wild Philanthropy. Whilst incorporating the classic safari, Wild Philanthropy invests in a number of projects in and around the Horn of Africa, taking on philanthropic clients keen to engage in long-term relationships with wild Africa.

One of these projects is the Tongwe Trust in Mahale on the Eastern shores of Lake Tanganyika, Tanzania – the very place that Sophy and I visited on our trip. Organised by Roland Purcell, an old friend and Tongwe’s chimp fanatic, this trip looked at the main aims and objectives of the trust, as well as its challenges and potential for philanthropic investment.

I am very pleased to say that Tongwe will be Wild Philanthropy’s first venture (along with Chebera Churchura National Park – Ethiopia) and one that we’re extremely excited about. Do have a read of Sophy’s story and, if you get the chance, go. There’s nothing quite like it.
